Music Class
A Message From Mrs. Hubbard & Mr. Wallace About Music Class:

Mr. Wallace is settling into his new Music and Language Exploration class schedules this week.  He has enjoyed meeting all of the children!

He said the number one question was, "Do we get to play recorders?" ðŸ˜€

Next week, he will schedule lessons for all of the middle school students who want to play a band instrument.

Mrs. Hubbard is doubtful that she will be able to fit piano lessons into Mr. Wallace's school day.

If you would like to consider before  / after school piano lessons, please email Mrs. Hubbard at jhubbard@stclareagw.org.

  • Students will have P.E. with Mr. Van Grinsven in the church basement (or outside when the temperature warms up) twice a week.
Math
  • 2nd Grade - The 2nd graders recently learned how to add 2-digit numbers with regrouping.  They used manipulatives to visualize this concept and they are in the process of transitioning to pencil and paper.
  • 3rd Grade - Starting next week, the 3rd grade will add the x6 facts to their repertoire of multiplication facts. (They will also continue the unit on telling time.) Most days, the 3rd graders use their flashcards to review two sets of facts or we play one of our multiplication games before we start new material which means that they are getting quite good at knowing their multiplication facts! Thank you so much if you've sent in a set of 169 multiplication flashcards.  It is so helpful to have the facts divided into sets for quick and easy accessibility for your child's use. For your reference, please note that there will be a "Multiplication Facts Check In" report in your child's report card envelope.
  • 4th Grade - The 4th graders learned how to multiply a 2-digit number by a 2-digit number.  They already learned the different methods of multiplication and are now settling into utilizing the standard method as they advance further into the chapter.
Religion
With it being the end of the 2nd quarter, all students were again assessed on their grade level prayers. The assessment sheet will be included in your child's report card envelope.  They are doing a FANTASTIC job!  A big shout out to the 2nd graders for learning their Act of Contrition in preparation for their First Reconciliation which will take place in about 3 weeks.

Social Studies
  • Grades 2 & 3 will have a test on Wednesday, February 3. Study guides and flashcards will be sent home daily.

Week of November 23-25

Hello Parents,

The students are enjoying getting to know our new 3rd grade student, Gavin!  We can tell that Gavin is certainly enjoying school as well! Welcome, Gavin and all of our new St. Clare students in grades 2-4. For this school year, we welcomed 5 new students to our cohort. Welcome, Melanie, Haiden, Lorena, Mason & Gavin!  We are so happy that you are a part of our St. Clare family!

Math-3rd Grade
Learning to multiply is a pretty big deal in the academic life of a student. Parents, you would be so proud of your 3rd grade children.  They are doing so well grasping the concept and they're well into memorizing their times tables for 0, 1, 2 & 10. They are enjoying some multiplication songs, parodies, mash-ups, raps, etc. during snack time as well.

Multiplication Tips & Tricks-3rd & 4th Grade
The 4th graders are working on really mastering their times tables.  A list of multiplication tips have been compiled that incorporate imagery, rhymes and clue phrases in order to help students recall answers in a quick and fun way.  This document will be sent home once we finish introducing each trick so that students can have a copy at home as well as at school.

The 3rd graders are just starting to memorize times tables and these tips and tricks will be utilized in 3rd grade as well.  A copy will be sent home with 3rd graders at a later date.

Cursive-3rd & 4th Grades
Another exciting time for young students is the day that students get to start writing their names in cursive.  All 3rd and 4th graders worked one-on-one with Mrs. Van Helvoirt this week learning to write their names correctly. Going forward, they should be writing their names in cursive on all of their assignments. They were pretty excited about this!

Reading - Grades 3 & 4
Thank you for taking the time to listen to your child read his/her paper leveled reading books regularly.  Just a reminder to send the books back to school once finished so your child may choose a new story.

Spelling-All Grades
There will be no spelling test next week due to the Thanksgiving break.

Supplies
Currently, we are doing quite well with our supply of hand sanitizer, disinfecting sprays, wipes, tissues and paper towels. We are, however, in need of more foam hand soap.  If you are looking for a way to give during this season of Thanksgiving, please consider sending foam hand soap to school.

Week of November 16-20

Hello Parents,

Report cards are being sent home today. We are very pleased with the progress that the students are making!  The first quarter is often a period of adjustment in any school year, and this first quarter required a period of adjustment for educators and students alike, both throughout the school community and beyond.  Your children have done a fantastic job acclimating to our new cohort schedule and health precautions and we are very proud of them!

Please sign and return the report card envelope.  You may keep your copy of the report card.  Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Math-2nd Grade
  • The second graders are finishing up their unit on telling time.
  • They will be moving on to learning and memorizing the basic addition and subtraction facts where the answer is between 10 and 18.
  • It will be really important that the students practice their addition and subtraction facts at home regularly.
  • Please return the mini clock to school. For the weeks ahead, we will send home your child's math flashcards for use at home during this chapter.  Watch for your child's math homework for which days to use flashcards.  While the students need to practice flashcards for homework on those days, they are certainly welcome to practice beyond just those days.
Math-All Grades
Math books will be sent home this weekend.  Please look them over, sign the yellow slip and be sure that the books get returned to school.

Reading - Grades 3 & 4
Thank you for taking the time to listen to your child read his/her paper leveled reading books regularly.  Please continue sending the books back to school once finished so your child may choose a new story.
